One of his well known publications was a series dedicated to sixteenth-century women poets. Bulifon’s bookshop in Naples was a centre for the distribution of foreign journals and papers. His shop was destroyed during the Austrian invasion in 1707‚ and Bulifon himself died a few months later in exile in Spain.

In the 1980s the auction house Robson Lowe held two auctions of late sixteenth century correspondence sent to the Corsini family‚ the Florentine merchants. A proportion of these letters bear Merchant Guild Marks‚ evidence of the efficient European postal system set up by the merchant families.

A few spots only‚ generally in good condition. Mainau [an island in Lake Constance‚ near the city of Konstanz‚ Baden-Württemberg]‚ 18 August 1888. Frederick I (1826-1907) was the sixth Grand Duke of Baden from 1856 to 1907. He was the third son of Grand Duke Leopold (1790–1852) and of his wife‚ Grand Duchess Sophie (1801–1865)‚ who was born Princess of Sweden‚ daughter of King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden. The Grand Duke had a pivotal role in the history of the Zionist Movement. In 1896 the Grand Duke helped Theodor Herzl (the founder of political Zionism) in obtaining an audience with his nephew‚ the German Emperor. After some persuasion on the part of the Grand Duke‚ the Emperor had finally accepted the appeal for an audience and it took place in Palestine in the October 28 1898‚ while the Kaiser was in his pilgrimage trip to Palestine. In 1853 Grand Duke Frederick I of Baden purchased the island of Mainau as his personal property and built a summer palace there.

Pedro Henriquez d'Azevedo y Alvarez de Toledo‚ Count of Fuentes de Valdepero (1525 – 1610) Spanish general and statesman. He took part in the 1580 campaign in Portugal under the Duke of Alba and in 1582 was given supreme command over the Spanish troops. In 1589‚ as Captain General of Portugal‚ he successfully defended Lisbon against the attack by the English Armada‚ led by John Norris and Francis Drake. In 1591 he was sent to the Netherlands‚ where he was intermittently Governor. He conquered Doullens and Cambrai during the Franco-Spanish War (1595–1598). He was then made governor and Captain General of Milan‚ 1600–1610‚ dying in office aged 85.

Ferdinand Gregorovius (1821-1891) was a German historian who specialized in the medieval history of Rome. He is best known for Wanderjahre in Italien his account of the walks he took through Italy in the 1850s. Gregorovius was born at Neidenburg and studied at the University of Königsberg. After teaching for many years Gregorovius took up residence in Italy in 1852 remaining in that country for over twenty years. He was made a citizen of Rome but eventually returned to Germany where he died in Munich.

Giuseppe Longhi (1766 – 1831)‚ Italian printmaker and writer‚ born in Monza‚ and initially trained at the Ambrosian Seminary‚ studying philosophy and letters. By the age of 20‚ he decided to become an artist‚ and trained with the engraver Vincenzio Vangelisti. He also trained with Aspari‚ Traballesi‚ and Franchi. He moved to Rome. He returned to Milan to teach engraving at the Brera Academy. Longhi produced a notable engraving of Napoleon in 1797. The following year he became a professor of engraving at the Brera Academy.

Maria Theresa (1717-1780)‚ Empress‚ daughter of the Emperor Charles VI‚ became Queen of Hungary and of Bohemia‚ and Archduchess of Austria on the death of her father in 1740. Anton Ignatz Grafen von Mercy d’Argenteau (1692-1767)‚ Austrian general‚ commanded the regiment bearing his name from 1741 to 1767. He had been promoted to Lieutenant-Marshal in 1741 for service against the Turks‚ and was made General of artillery in 1753 following service in the War of the Austrian Succession‚ being placed in supreme command of the Slovenian military frontier.

Carlo Poerio (1803-1867)‚ Italian poet‚ Risorgimento and 1848 Revolution activist‚ politician‚ and brother of Alessandro Poerio. In July 1849 Poerio was arrested‚ tried‚ and sentenced to nineteen years in prison. Chained in pairs‚ he and other political prisoners were confined in one small room in the labor camp on Nisida (the Flegree Islands). Gladstone's report on the inhumane conditions in Neapolitan detention facilities (1851)‚ emphasizing the case of Poerio‚ provoked an international uproar; nonetheless‚ Poerio was set free only in 1858. He and other exiles were than placed on board a ship bound for the Argentina‚ but the son of Luigi Settembrini (both of them on board the ship) compelled the crew to land them at Cork‚ in the United Kingdom‚ after which Poerio made his way to London. In the following year he returned to Italy.

Mary Howitt (11799 – 1888) was an English poet‚ and author of the famous poem The Spider and the Fly. While residing at Heidelberg in 1840‚ Mary Howitt’s attention was directed to Scandinavian literature. In company with a friend Madame Schoultz‚ she set herself to learn Swedish and Danish. She afterwards translated and introduced Fredrika Bremer's novels (1842–1863‚ 18 vols) to English readers. Howitt also translated many of Hans Christian Andersen's tales.

He expounded his political creed and his policy as minister to Charles Albert (from February 1835 to October 1847) in his Memorandum storico-politico‚ published in 1851‚ a document of great interest for the study of the conditions of Piedmont and Italy at that time. In 1853 he was elected deputy for San Quirico‚ but he persisted in regarding his mandate as derived from the royal authority rather than as an emanation of the popular will. As leader of the Clerical Right in the parliament he strongly opposed Cavour's policy‚ which was eventually to lead to Italian unity‚ and on the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy he retired from public life.

As a theologian Vinet gave a fresh impulse to Protestant theology‚ especially in French-speaking lands‚ but also in England and elsewhere. Lord Acton classed him with Richard Rothe. His philosophy relied strongly on conscience‚ defined as that by which man stands in direct personal relation with God as moral sovereign‚ and the seat of a moral individuality which nothing can rightly infringe. He advocated complete freedom of religious belief‚ and to this end the formal separation of church and state (Mémoire en faveur de la liberté des cultes (1826)‚ Essai sur la conscience (1829)‚ Essai sur la manifestation des convictions religieuses (1842). For the rest of his life‚ Zamoyski worked for Czartoryski‚ acting as his representative in London and organizing Polish legions to fight against the partitioning powers.
